The dwindling fortunes of Ghana sports has stirred the Ministry of  Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority to meet with the heads of the various sporting disciplines in the country.

At a brainstorming meeting at the Accra Stadium on Tuesday, the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Dr  Edward Omane Boamah met the close to 40 Association heads to brainstorm and look for solutions to arrest problems bedeviling the various sporting disciplines.

The acting Sports Authority Director Alice Attipoe indicated that the country's poor show in the London Olympics among other things prompted the meeting.

And in finding ways to salvage the situation, the deputy minister outlined solutions as prioritizing and judicious use of resources, approaching corporate Ghana, ensuring free-flow of information, providing logistics for events, diversifying procurement, better preparations, etc, as some of the ways to arrest the situation.

He said suggestions after the brainstorm session would be put into a blue print to serve as a guide for the development of sports in the country.

Tentatively, he suggested that steps had been put in place to rope in the amateur boxers into the various security services and National Youth Programs to discourage them from turning pros.

He said the initiative was of strategic national interest to ensure that the boxers remained amateurs till the next Olympics to realize the country's dream of making an impact.

'The journey to the next Olympics begins today, and I believe frank talk and better preparations will take us there,' said the minister.

The second part of the brainstorming session saw the Associations being divided into groups to outline their peculiar problems.

He encouraged the association heads to channel their grievances through writings to his office.
