Accra, Sept 25, GNA - Mr Iddrisu Bawa, former skipper of the national volleyball team on Thursday presented sports equipment worth 10,000 dollars to the national team currently preparing for the 8th All African Games scheduled for Abuja from October 4 to 18.
Presenting the items in Accra, Mr Bawa who now resides in the USA said the presentation was in fulfilment of a promise he had made to the team whiles they were playing the qualifier for the Games earlier this year.
Bawa who played for Calbury Rangers was the General Captain of the national team until 1987, when he left the country to play professional. He hoped the kits would spur the team on to improve upon their third place finish at the last All African Games held in South Africa.
Mr Rashid Bawa, Minister of State at the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports received the items and thanked Mr Bawa for his kind gesture.
He said the donation would help in a way, to alleviate the huge responsibility placed on the shoulders of the ministry.
The items included three, two-dozen sets of T Shirts, a set of jerseys each for the male and female teams, 24 pairs of training shoes for the male and female teams and 24 kneepads.
