Accra, July 17, GNA – The Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (GBFA) has dissociated itself from a group calling itself National Amateur Bodybuilding Association (NABA), which is purported to be founded to undertake bodybuilding and related activities in the country.

A statement signed by Ekow Martins, Technical Director of GBFA copied to GNA Sports said the group did not follow due process regarding its formation and has failed to recognize the role of the GBFA as a mother body authorized by the National Sports Authority and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to handle the sport in country.

It said the new group led by one Victor Baiden and founded on July 13 this year has “demonstrated gross disrespect and disregard to the GBFA and the National Sports Authority when we tried to engage them in order for them to regularize their activities.

“The GBFA does not recognize this group and wishes to inform the general public that the activities of this group are illegitimate. Hence, the GBFA bans the group from undertaking any bodybuilding activities in the country.”

The statement also urged all bodybuilders and corporate institutions to disassociate themselves from the activities of the group.

“Dealing with such an unaccredited group whose activities are not sanctioned is at your own risk and the GBFA and the image of bodybuilding in Ghana should not be held responsible should any problem arise."

It concluded that the GBFA is willing to accommodate the new group once they comply with the laid down rules.
