Spain this even thrashed France 2-0 to advance to the semifinals of the Euro 2012 at the Donbass Arena in Donetsk. Spain thankful of Xabi Alonso's brace in the 19th and 92nd minutes was enough to stop the heartbeat of the French side as they have not beaten France in any major competition before.

Spain who crippled a brilliant French side to nothing, sends chilling sensation to the spines of potential opponents with their classic performance. The French who adapted a defensive tactics to stop the Spanish from their free flowing soccer failed, as the Spanish dominated both halves of the game.

The French who hardly threatened the Spanish side, came close to a goal mouth action , that was not enough to shake the 4-6-0 formation of the Spanish side, which was used during their 1-1 all draw opening match against the Italians.

Alonso who had a brilliant game on his 100th cap for Spain, made it a memorable one with two astonishing goals. French Keeper Hugo Lloris, did well to save potential goals for his side as the Spanish were not merciful with their attacks.

The French who came in the second half, with a bit of style and energy upfront, did little to push down the Spanish line of defence. Alonso' beautiful penalty kick in injury time as a result of clumsy tackle from Reveillere, threw keeper Hugo Lloris yards away to end the game as hero of the day.

Spain became the third team to qualify for the semis, with Portugal and Germany already there awaiting the outcome of the clash between Italy and England tomorrow.
