Accra, June 11, GNA – The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has unveiled the package presented to the award winners at the just-ended 37th MTN-SWAG Awards Night, held at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra, on Saturday, June 9.
Over 20 sportsmen and women and administrators were honoured for their outstanding performance in 2011 at the Awards Gala which was held with grandeur and splendour that saw a gathering of sports stakeholders.
According to the Association, all award winners received a plaque, certificate as well as souvenirs from headline sponsors, MTN and fabrics from Akosombo Textiles Limited (ATL).
It said Ajara Mohammed, winner of the flagship award, 'Sports Personality of the Year', in addition to her package took a six-month fully installed DSTV donated by MultiChoice Ghana Limited.
Andre Dede Ayew, 'Footballer of the Year', Emmanuel Baffour and Barimah Kamoko, known as “Bukom Banku” also received a Muti TV digibox donated by Multimedia Group.
Two other award winners, Patrick Obeng – Male Athlete of the Year and Ophelia Swayne – Promising Star of the Year each received a DSTV Walker donated by MultiChoice Ghana Limited for their efforts.
Ajara made history by becoming the first disabled athlete to win the topmost prize in the 37-year history of SWAG in its annual awards.
The statement, however, noted that the difference in prizes was as a result of the decision of some specific sponsors to select certain award categories to sponsor.
