SG-SSB on Wednesday presented a GH¢50,000,00 cheque to the Ghana Rugby Association at its Ring Road East Head office in Accra.
The donation was in response to the association's sponsorship request to the bank last April.
In his address, the Managing Director of the bank Gilbert Hie said: 'SG-SSB, with its values- professionalism, team spirit and innovation- has since 2005 provided support towards the development of the sport among basic schools, the development of a league and also the provision of training for rugby trainers.'
He revealed that SG-SSB's parent company Societe Generale has also been associated with Rugby since 1987 when the bank became an official partner to the French Rugby Association.
Hie pledged his outfit's commitment to the association, saying, 'We would ask the Ghana Rugby Association to consider us as part of your team.'
The chairperson of Ghana Rugby Association, Gifty Annan-Myers noted that the money would go into a new programme she had termed 'Catch then young'.
She said the program, which would be launched in June, seeks among other things to promote the sport among schools, and promised to use the donation to purchase 50 rugby balls.
She thanked the bank for the gesture.
