Accra, May 4, GNA - The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) will soon hold a capacity and training workshop for sports officials to educate them on the importance of doping in sports.
WADA is the global body that promotes, coordinate and monitor the fight against drugs in sport and the workshop in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports will be the first of its kind in the country.
Clement Kofi Humado, Minister of Youth and Sports told GNA Sports that the workshop billed for the end of June will seek to acquaint sports officials with the requisite knowledge on doping.
He described the organization of the event as timely with the London 2012 Olympic Games due to take place from mid-July through to August, since the knowledge gained will be vital to the Ghanaian delegation.
The Minister added that hosting such an educative program for sports officials will ensure Ghana becomes compliant with the rules of the global anti-doping to rid sport of drug cheats.
He explained that it is important for Ghana to be compliant with the rules of WADA to avoid embarrassment at future international competitions.
Mr Humado has therefore called on the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) to take up interest in the initiative that is geared towards the development of sports across the country.
