Golf ACCRA BUSINESS SCRAMBLE SAW FEBRUARY WINNERS PULLED OFF AN EXCITING DOUBLE.
APR 3, 2012 LISTEN

The ability to create ideal scoring conditions was a good recipe for a second successive win of Team 2 after the group fired up an all round impressive performance at the Accra Business Scramble. The event was by organized Macnicol Duncan of Stellar Africa with support from Forum Audio Conferencing on Wednesday AT Achimota Golf Club.

Having braced up for the big challenge to defend their earlier win at the February event that placed them in the winners' circle, a group member Hon. Felix Kwasi Owusu -Adjapong maintained that, each member brought unto the table something substantial.

“We had two hard hitters; Ian Underhill and NaheshShetty, who mostly set their shots unto the fairway”, he continued, “I also brought in good second shots thereby hitting approach shots on target. Mrs Adelaide Owusu-Adjapong on the other hand hit carefully to make up for any astray shots that the hard hitters may create.” He added

Playing off average handicap 19.5, team handicap -1, the group scored to a par of -8 bringing to a net score of -9. The total appeal of the group's play, which involved aggressive play, shooting at pins and carefully controlling the spin to set up tap-in putts, were reflective of their play statistics on the day. But for par play on holes 1, 6, 8 and 9 and a feeble chip beside the greens en route to a bogey on hole7, the front nine would have shown quite an attractive picture.

However, the group's swiftness and line matched up very well and made spectacular gains on the back nine. They made pars on holes 8, 9, 16, 17, 18 and sunk birdies on holes 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15. It was a charge into contention, derailed by a bogey and finally recovery to ultimate glory affair in the group.

Despite the outcome, Hon. Felix Owusu-Adjapong, was grateful also for such rare moments that brought business-minded people together to take life easy out of their busy schedules, indulge in some form of exercise and enjoy the company of one another. “The monthly scramble breeds harmony among us, create the platform to have easy access to business contact, the first time it was in February, and now we are in March, until that time we didn't know ourselves”. He emphasized.

Trailed in second place finish was Team 9, with a group set up that included the Chairman of Forum Audio Conferencing, Kwesi Amoafo-Yeboah, Kwesi Ohimeng, Mel Kebe and Mike Aggrey. With average handicap of 19.3, against team handicap of 0, the determined group scored to a par of -7, bringing their net score to -7.

Percy (Nana Annor) Amihere, Duncan MacNicol, Tim Melling and Gary Stubley making up Team 6 were beaten to third placeafter they played to an average handicap and team's handicap of 21.3 and -2 respectively. They eventually returned a net score of -6 after making a par of -4.

If properly managed, golf is an excellent business tool. A realization of this maxim among other things propelled the smart folks at Forum Audio Conferencing to partner such a highly interactive golf event.

Speaking at the closing event, Marketing Manager of Forum Audio Conferencing, Marian Kitcher explained that their outfit saw the need to create a viable platform that enables one to communicate via phone to up to an amazing one thousand people from the comfort of ones home, office or any other location and emphasized that the platform is highly interactive. That rewarding, zero drudgery platform is Forum Audio Conferencing.

Launched in October 2010, the monthly networkers' Accra Business Scramble has developed into a very successful event. According to Macnicol Duncan of Stellar Africa, the event is open to, owners, senior Managers and Executive of Businesses in the Oil & Gas, Finance, Mining, Communications and all industry sectors. He continued, “The format and formula is based on the very successful “Lagos Oilmen's Scramble” played at the Ikoyi Club and used the Texas Scramble – better ball rules of play”

The exciting, fun-filled and socially rewarding night saw the giveaways of stunning prizes to golfers who made it onto the leaderboard.
