Accra, March 19, GNA – National officers of the Netball Association of Ghana (NAG), last week engaged in a brainstorming session in Kumasi to develop strategies of popularizing the game in the country.

The brainstorming session was attended by National Executives and members of the various Regional branches of the Association and discussed areas such as fund-raising and sponsorship, formation of regional teams, organization of workshops for trainers and trainees and training programmes for coaches and umpires.

The members after the meeting developed a special campaign programme dubbed: “Netball Crusade 2012 Agenda”, which is aimed at taking the sport to communities, schools and security services through the nooks and corners of the country.

Rev. Emmanuel D. Neequaye - President of NAG told GNA Sports that his outfit intends at embarking on the crusade to make the game popular in Ghana, which will help in securing the needed funds for the Association from the corporate world.

He said the new Legislative Instrument (LI), grants the Association autonomy, hence the need to develop effective ways of branding the image of the organization and to raise funds to support their activities.

“According to the new law, LI (1988), associations are now independent and must therefore seek their own funds for their programmes. The National Sports Authority will only come in for advice or when a team is going out to represent the nation in a tournament so as you can see we have a lot of work to do”, Rev. Neequaye said.
