Fans Angry With Coach Plavi

Some angry and disappointed Ghanaian fans have vented their spleen on Coach Goran Stevanovic, calling for his immediate dismissal for what they described as a failed promise to deliver the trophy.

They recalled that before leaving for the tournament, the coach promised Ghanaians that anything short of the trophy should amount to his dismissal, and now that he was unable to honour that promise he should do the honourable thing of resigning to avoid incurring their wrath for the disappointment caused the nation.

Prior to the tournament, the Black Stars Serbian coach promised Ghanaians at a press briefing that he had selected the best materials to represent the nation, promising to resign his position if he came home with anything short of playing in the final.

The irate fans who spoke to the Graphic Sports after Ghana’s 1-2 defeat to Zambia Wednesday, said the level of incompetence of the coach had been exposed because he had the chance to easily win the cup in the absence of Cameroun, Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa but failed.

They noted that the coach had added very little to the team since he took over and demanded that he justified why he should be paid huge salaries when he is unable to deliver even the Nations Cup. “Would he be able to even qualify the team to the next World Cup”, they asked.

Comparing Coach Stevanovic’s performance to that of his predecessor, Milovan Rajevac, Daniel Oppong, one of the disgusted fans, said though Rajevac played the last tournament with a make-shift team, he was able to play in the final only to lose to Egypt and asked why this coach, with all the stars, still failed to do well to win the trophy.

Immediately after the game, traffic unusually flowed freely on some major streets of Accra as it was believed that many left their offices earlier to avoid missing out on the anticipated after-party. However, Zambia beat Ghana 1-0 in a game the Black Stars played well and dominated.

Asamoah Gyan became the victim of many angry fans who laid the blame at his doorsteps, demanding to know why he would always elect himself to take penalty kicks as the disappointment from the last World Cup was still fresh in the minds of many Ghanaians.

They noted that if Gyan would continue to break the hearts of Ghanaians, then they would stop supporting the Black Stars. They urged the coach to stop the Al Ain striker from taking penalties for the nation.
