Mr. Abraham Boakye, the President of the Ghana National Supporters Union(GHANSU) who is currently Ghana’s Olympic Ambasador, says plans were far advanced by his organisation to launch a massive campaign to mobilise supporters from Ghana to support the nation’s contingent at the London 2012.
According to him, Ghanaian supporters will form a group of African supporters to be sponsored by Glo Mobile Ghana Ltd, which has set a fund aside to support African supporters at the Games.
He said the move is in conformity of GHANSU’s tradition of supporting the national teams, from the days of the national under-17, the Black Starlets in Italy 1991 which has seen the union earned the reputation of supporting the national teams.
Boakye said as Ghana’s Olympic Ambassador and vice president of Africa supporters as well as Glo Mobile Ghana ambassador,
his organisation would contribute its efforts to ensure that Ghana has the best support of all time at the Games.
He stated, he was therefore surprised to hear that an injuction has been placed on the newly elected executives and noted that as a member of a mediation team headed by football administrator Nana Fitz which saw to it that the Ghana Olympic Committee held its elections, he was hopeful that with the International Olympic Committee’s endorsement of the process, the way would be paved for Ghana to restore order in its Olympic dealings.
“As a keen supporter of Ghana sports, it is my considered view that all sports lovers must remain calm as the efforts are being made to restore calm in the Ghanaian Olympic front. The recent misunderstanding with the Ghana Olympic Committee has earned the nation a bad image and it is for all to help bring the matter to a closure”, he stated.
