Ex- Black Stars defender, Samuel Osei Kuffour, says his saddest moment is the inability of his generation to win a trophy for the senior national team.
The former Bayern Munich star, who is one of the all- time Africa best players was part of the promising generation of players who burst onto the world scene and won the 1991 FIFA under- 17 World Cup in Italy.
The 35- year- old whose illustrious career saw him winning the UEFA Champions League in 2001 has won 17 titles in his career.
Speaking on E TV’ programme, “Revealed”, Samuel Osei Kuffour could not hide his regret for the failure of the senior national team to win any silverware during his playing days.
“Sometimes when I sit back and look back at my playing days, it pains me that I couldn’t win anything because there is nothing to show for my career with Black Stars.”
The 1991 FIFA Under- 17 World Cup winner added “for me being part of the team that went to the world cup in 2006 was great, but there is nothing that I can show to my children.”
“The only thing that I have is a jersey that I can show to my children that I also played at the World Cup.”, he lamented.
Kuffour, who is due to stage his own testimonial match at the Baba Yara Stadium on December 23, 2011 said he believes his generation had better quality players than the current crop of players.
He however, blamed the team’s poor performance at the time on the quality of organisation.
“We had the quality players at the time. I think that quality was far better than today, in my opinion,” he stressed.
“But when you compare in terms of organisation, this time, it is far better than our time.
“In those days, Black Star players had to wait at the stadium to get their bonuses or the refund of their return air tickets.
“I mean those are the things we lacked those days”, he stated.
