Telecommunication giant Glo Mobile says any company engaged in the business of telecommunications cannot associate itself with the Black Stars in any form or manner.
According to the firm, no brand, company or entity can directly or indirectly associate itself with the Black Stars or the Ghana Football Association.
This means firms engaged in GSM, CDMA, fixed telephony, ISPs, broadband, satellite and undersea sub marine cables cannot do any business with the FA and the Black Stars.
In a statement, Glo said it was illegitimate for MTN to adopt a marketing method to organize a promo to stimulate its business and generate profit where it has not invested anything.
Accordingly, MTN is ambushing reaping dividends where it has not sown a dime and in all fairness to Glo, the headline sponsors of the Black Stars and other sponsors, they ought to be punished to safeguard the quality and future of sports sponsorship in Ghana.
The GFA yesterday issued a strong warning to MTN to stop advertisements with images of key Black Stars players, currently running on the Ghana Nigeria international friendly scheduled for today August 8, 2011 in London.
Glo said, following the acquisition of an operating license in Ghana, signed a whopping $24 million five-year sponsorship agreement with the GFA which made it the title sponsor of the Ghana Premier League as well as headline sponsor of the Black Stars.
Under the agreement, Glo has since 2009 supported the Black Stars with a cash donation of $1.5 million every year. In return, the GFA granted Glo total exclusivity in the telecommunications category of the sponsorship.
