Local boxing's maverick, Bukom Banku, emerged from nearly four hours of workout Monday, including two hours of gym work at the Attoh Quarshie Gym in Accra, stared at open space and sped off for a routine shower and rest at home.
Moments later, he declared that Namibian Vikapita Meroro will not last beyond seven rounds when the two square up in the ring at the Accra Interational Conference Centre on Saturday for Banku's WBO Africa light-heavyweight title.
'I am in good condition, and everything will be fine,' the Ghanaian told Graphic Sports.
It was the least he could say to hordes of fans who regularly track him to the gym and who are inspired by his recent focus on the 'job ahead'.
Now wearing a trimmed body, his contours and body curves even more clearer, Banku has worked himself into outstanding shape that inspires true confidence that he has a realistic chance of winning the full world title anytime in the imediate future.
Banku, a double title holder, is staking the WBO Africa version of his belt against Vikapita Meroro in Saturday's mega showdown on GoldenMike Promotions Syndicate's 'No Turning Back' bill.
Until three months ago, Vikapita Meroro was undefeated in 23 fights, a reputation that underlines the tough opposition that confronts Banku in Saturday's bout. Indeed, the Namibian's only defeat so far was suffered in an attempt at the WBO title.
Banku, on the other hand, remains undefeated in 27 fights, and has promised to use his opponent as a stepping stone to the bigger dream of a major world title.
Also on the show are Joshua ‘Bukom Tsatsu’ Okine and South African Sikhulule Sidzumo for the IBF inter-continental title; Sam Amoako versus Kareem Ariyo of Nigeria in an international lightweight contest; Patrick Allotey versus Jamiru Tyson of Nigeria in an international welterweight contest.
The bill is being sponsored by Tema-based Servistar Frozen Foods Limited and Big Foot Construction Limited.
