April 05, 2011 Accra, April 5, GNA - Accra Polytechnic emerged winners of the Zone Two version of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship after they defeated University of Ghana 39-19 in the finals at the Basketball court of University of Ghana, Legon at the week-end.
Cheered on by the vociferous singing group of the 'Zulu Community', the Accra Polytechnic lads displayed maturity and power play throughout the game to ensure that they recorded a resounding victory over the host team.
The event, which was sponsored by communications giants, Tigo saw four selected tertiary institutions fighting for the two available slots in the zone to advance for the grand finale.
Accra Polytechnic advanced to the finals by beating Institute of Professional Studies (IPS), whilst University of Ghana defeated Central University in the prelims.
Central University picked the third place by beating IPS 35-29.
The UPAC Basketball Championship enters Zone 3 with Sunyani Polytechnic, Christian Service University, KNUST, Garden City University and host Kumasi Polytechnic battling for honours on Saturday, April 9 at the Kumasi Polytechnic basketball court.
