Kumasi, March 17, GNA – Kwasi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has challenged Club Managers and Administrators to continually liaise with corporate bodies for the sustainable development of the sport in the country.

He said players' salary, insurance, club houses, secretariat and training facilities should become their main priority since these were indispensable to the improvement of football.

Nyantakyi who was addressing a press conference in Kumasi, noted that the patronage of Ghana's football had taken a nosedive because of poor management.

“This also explains why the country is losing most of our quality local players to foreign teams - depriving the Premier League of the needed excitement and exposure.

He said until stakeholders in the sport changed their old ways of doing things to ensure some level of professionalism the Ghanaian game would continue to suffer low patronage.

“The competition facing the Ghanaian game as per European football is so keen that we should take drastic measures to improve the local game.”

The GFA President disclosed that since 2007, the local league had been receiving an annual sponsorship package of about GH¢30,000.00 per annum and this had helped substantially to support the clubs in their activities.

Touching on Colts football, he announced that plans have been put in place to review the National Colts Championship so that the competition would be based on participation by regional teams instead of champions of regional clubs.

This would give the competition more regional representation for the benefit of football development and sponsorship.

Nyantakyi expressed confidence about retaining the GFA Presidency in the upcoming Congress, saying, his good track record in football administration puts him ahead of his other challengers.

He said the GFA would use the Black Stars-England friendly match to market the Ghanaian brand of football.
