For ardent sports-loving Ghanaians, the withdrawal of the new Legislative Instrument that spells out new regulation for sports administration and organization in the country of parliament is welcome news and must be refreshingly exciting.

The rationale behind the withdrawal is because the withdrawn legislative instrument lends support to the SMC Decree 54, which is still being used to run sports in the country.

According to Kofi Humado, the Sports Minister, the Legislative Instrument contradicts the Sports Amendment Bill laid before parliament, and must be reviewed.

Only strangers in the country will deny knowledge of the recent ban imposed on Ghana by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This was because the government fell on it for the election of new officers of the Ghana Olympic Committee.

The SMC Decree 54 being used to govern sports in the country flies in the face of the IOC Charter, and any country, whose legislative instrument for the running of sports fly in the face of the IOC Charter risks being banned, hence the decision to hand Ghana the indefinite ban.

He has explained that the withdrawal will enable his ministry to have more consultations to deal with some technical issues inherent in it.

A good step as that is, the question that begs for answer is, who sent it to parliament in the first place, judging from the fact that the SMC Decree 54 has landed Ghana in trouble already.

But for the smartness of the new minister, Ghana sports would have been led into more dangers such as the one it had been led into a la the IOC ban.
