George Arthur chairs new B.A. Utd

Sunyani (Brong Ahafo Region) -- Former international, ‘King’ George Arthur, has been elected Chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of B.A. United F/C.He was elected at a meeting of the IMC at Sunyani on Tuesday. Three members of the former management who are members of the IMC did not attend the meeting, but majority of the members who were present went ahead to elect the former player who featured for B.A. United, Asante Kotoko and Egyptian giants El-Ahli during his playing days. The IMC was put in place at the instance of the Sunyani District Chief Executive, Mr Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, who was tasked by the Regional Minister, Mr Ernest Debrah to help resolve the crisis in the club.Last Wednesday morning, Arthur held a meeting with the playing body at the ultra modern offices he donated to the club recently. Among the players who attended the meeting were skipper Alhaji Abbass, Samuel Arthur, Awudu Moro, Nana Adarkwa, Alex Djanie and Charles Ampiah. Others are Daniel Kwao, Frank Adjei, Sumaila Adams, Billa Moaba, Moro Mohammed, Ishmael Fredos, Isaac Asare, Kofi Poku and Kwasi Boateng. The rest are Asoma Dauda, Daniel Bomfa, Kwame Andrews and Masiru Gani.Three other players who are in Kumasi, Emmanuel Nkrumah, Lawrence Kainya and keeper Ransford Kudjo were absent but skipper Abass indicated that word has been sent to them to report for training and they would be returning to Sunyani this week to start training. At the meeting, the players pledged their support for the Arthur-led IMC to enable it move the club forward. Skipper Abass who spoke on behalf of the players commended the IMC for the efforts it is putting in place to lift up the morale of the players, which sunk seriously during the off-season. They pledged to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them by the IMC. Arthur, on his part, said he is in full control of affairs and nothing would prevent him from moving the club forward with the support of other members of the IMC. He promised to run an open administration for the good of the club. Arthur stated that United is a traditional club that commands a big following and it would be suicidal for anybody to take it as his or her personal property.
He said he has started paying all arrears owed the players as well as unpaid bonuses and training has started in earnest at the Coronation Park. According to Arthur, a new bus he has ordered for the club is on the high seas and would be arriving in the country soon.
He said he has nothing against the former administration of the club and urged members of the old administration who are members of the IMC to feel free and contribute to the development of the club. Arthur assured the players that their salaries world be improved while old players whose contracts have expired would be entered into fresh contracts. –
