Accra, Jan. 4, GNA — Francis Anquandah scored six points from six games to win this year's Ghana Chess Association Patrons Open Championship played at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra on Sunday.

Kwame Adomako won the Group 'B' category with six points, while Emmanuel Otoo and Daniel Adofo placed second with both scoring four points from six games each.

Wing Commander George Arko-Dadzie, Chairman of the Ghana Chess Association said the Association would do everything possible to ensure that the game was popularized especially at the schools level.

He said a chess club had been formed at the Mfantsiman School as a start and that another one would soon be formed at the Tamale Senior High School, adding that many of the clubs would also be formed in communities to whip up the peoples interest in the sport.

Wing-Cdr Arko-Dadzie said a National Championship competition would soon be held to select players to form the national team and appealed for sponsorship from corporate bodies and institutions for its success.
