After consoling seven teammates in previous eviction shows, Hillary Okonkwo had to be consoled when he hit the end of the road in the MTN Ghana-Nigeria Soccer Academy at Ridge last Sunday evening.
After a keenly-contested game, and musical performance from Lord Kenya and Mzbel that preceded the eviction show, the unassuming player and Daniel Opare, came face to face with destiny.
Opare escaped, generating spontaneous cheers from his Tema fans who had come in their numbers to lend their support, leaving Hillary, who was presented with his silverware and a football.
A post-eviction press conference yesterday at the Academy House, revealed a focused Hillary, who had put himself together, and looking into the future with hope.
He thanked Optimum Media Prime (OMP), organisers of the show, as well as Coaches Ibrahim Sunday, Mohammed Polo and Dan Owusu, for giving him the platform and shaping his soccer career.
The coaches praised Hillary copiously, and urged him to put the setback behind him, and strive for the top.
He left the Academy House, having spent barely three months in the country, with MTN souvenirs and Phamadem products.
The show goes on this Sunday, with Arago Jamal retaining his captaincy, and becoming the only player to have assumed that post for three terms.
With six team mates remaining in the house, and the last eviction show approaching this Sunday, the stage is set for the final showdown.
