Essien listed for Fifa best goal

Michael Essien's semi-final goal for Chelsea against Barcelona in last's season Uefa Champions League second league tie has been nominated by Fifa for the Puskas Award, given to the scorer of the best goal of the year.

 
Essien blasted in a volley that nearly sent Chelsea the final of the competition but Andres Iniesta struck late for Barca to tie the score at 1-1 and eventually win the competition.

 
Among the ten goals nominated are Fernando Torres' strike for Liverpool against Blackburn Rovers and Emmanuel Adebayor's Champions League goal for Arsenal against Villarreal.

 
The winner will be chosen by votes cast on the FIFA website and criteria for the award include the quality of the goal and the importance of the match in which it was scored.
