The nation's best cyclists storm Accra on Saturday 7th November 2009 from 9.00am-1.00pm to battle for honours in the National Seniors Cycling Championship.

The race would cover a distance of 120 km along some major streets of Accra with the starting and finishing points being the Ministry of Education Bus Stop at the Ministries, Accra.

The much-awaited cycling race involves 100 cyclists and officials who rank high in the Ghana Cycling Association's current national ratings.

The participants are composed of eight cyclists and two officials each from the Northern, Brong-Ahafo, Ashanti and Volta regions. The Greater Accra region presents 48 cyclists and 12 cycling officials.

The one-day national championship promises to be full of fireworks as six best cyclists will be selected for residential camping in preparation for the first ever West Africa Cycling Peace Tour Championship scheduled for Accra and Lagos, from 19th to 20th November, 2009.

The race is being sponsored by the National Sports Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

According to a release signed by Kwame Ampofi Jnr, Secretary General of the Ghana Cycling Association (GCA), residential camping for the six finalists will continue immediately after the race till November 19 when Team Ghana, comprising 6 cyclists and 4 officials, will depart for Lagos under the sponsorship of the National Sports Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. “In view of the above, the Ghana Cycling Association appeals for more support, both in cash and in kind, from public-spirited individuals and organisations to ensure the successful preparations of the nation's cyclists towards the National and West African Championship,” the release indicated, adding, “The support can be channelled through the GCA Chairman and the Secretary General on telephone numbers 0244819096 and 0243089693.”
