Brazil reckons that a final against Ghana is a fitting climax to the three-week World U-20 soccer fiesta, but his team has a bigger obligation to win, he told the media last Tuesday night after his side won a South American battle with a solitary 1-0 victory over Costa Rica.
'Both teams deserve to be in the final, Ghana having worked hard to be in the final, but for us in Brazil anything short of the title will be unacceptable to our people way back at home.
'So whether we play well or not against Ghana, we must win the title,' Rogerio stated. Drawing inspiration from an assertion by former Brazilian coach and captain, Carlos Dunga, who recently stated that with Brazil, there is always an obligation to play well and win, Rogerio said his team, despite its shortcoming, will play to win.
'Our people back home who did not attach any seriousness to this competititon, are now rallying behind the team since our qualification to the semi-final, and expectations have risen and we dare not fail them', he added.
Dismissing suggestions by some Brazilian and Costa Rican journalists that the potency of the Black Satellites strike-force gives them an advantage in tomorrow's battle, Rogerio insisted that that attribute could not be for the Ghanaian team alone, saying both teams had great striking potential and that explained why they were in the final.
He, however, conceded that the Satellites had a strong physical presence and that had always worked for them.
