Labone Secondary School (LABOSCO) defeated Accra Girls Vocational Institute (AGIVOC) 3-1 to win the maiden Kwamerk Volleyball Gala Championship in Accra on Friday.
LABOSCO, champions of the Government Assisted Secondary Schools in the Greater Accra Region, eliminated Providence Business Academy (PROBISCO) 2-0 while AGIVOC; champions of the Non-Assisted Secondary Schools beat National Technical College (NATECO) 2-0 to reach the finals. NATECO beat PROBISCO 2-0 to take the third position.
The one-day competition was organised by AGIVOC, was sponsored by Kwamerk Company Limited. Miss Edna Boafo, Principal of AGIVOC said the school organised the competition to unearth talents for the nation. She said the school had produced several national and international stars in volleyball, handball, athletics, basketball, tennis, netball and tae-kwon-do.
Miss Boafo said five students of the school were in the Black Queens women football team, which participated in the World Cup in USA in 1999. She thanked the company for the sponsorship and called on other organisations to support for youth sports to unearth more talents.
