After their superlative performance in the just-ended 16th African Boxing Championship in Mauritius, Ghana's amateur boxing side, the Black Bombers, have arrived home from Mauritius.
The team was met on arrival last Wednesday night at the Kotoka International Airport by the chairman of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) Mr. Ray Quarcoo, GABA's Technical Director, Azumah Nelson and Mr. Sammy Okaitey, member of GABA.
Of the eleven boxers who participated in the Mauritius World Cup qualifier, seven distinguished themselves to book tickets for the World Championship slated for Milan, in September.
The skipper of the team, Manyo Plange, who won Ghana's only gold medal, was adjudged the overall best boxer of the tournament. For his efforts, he came home with a giant trophy, while Frederick Lawson clinched the silver medal.
Emmanuel Quartey, Issah Samir, Habib Ahmed, Awusone Yekini and Ahmed Saraku won bronze medals.
Bombers Cuban trainer, Roberto Ibanyez Chavez said on arrival that the team has what it takes to go the extra mile in the forthcoming World championship.
Manyo Plange attributed the team's success to the quality leadership of the GABA, good training and high level discipline in camp. He revealed that another vintage performance should be anticipated in the Milan showpiece.
The Bombers are expected to pay a courtesy call on the Acting Chief Executive of the National Sports Council (NSC), Mr. Worlanyo Agra at the Ohene Djan Stadium today.
