Rashid Pelpuo THE MINISTER in-charge of Youth and Sports, Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, has given the assurance that his outfit will continue to provide the necessary support and assistance to the Technical Team of the Black Stars, led by Coach Milovan Rajevac, to build a strong and formidable team for the second half of the world cup qualifiers.

The Coach, he said, will be given the necessary funds to scout for players both locally and abroad to strengthen the team, adding “he will also be supported to instill discipline, commitment and confidence among the playing body”.

“The Ministry will ensure that the budget for the second round of the matches scheduled to commence in September, 2009, is quickly finalized for the prompt release of funds for the last phase of the tournament,” Hon. Pelpuo assured.

The senior national team has so far won all the three matches in the final round of qualifier for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and the 2010 Cup of Nations in Angola.

In answering questions from Isaac Asiamah, MP for Atwima-Mponua, on the floor of Parliament yesterday, Hon. Pelpuo noted that Black Stars, having performed so well in the first round of the qualifiers, now tops its group with the maximum nine points; five clear points ahead of the second placed nation in the group, Mali.

Commending the senior national team, Hon. Pelpuo, who is also a Minister of State at the presidency and MP for Wa Central, observed that the playing body has so far been exemplary in the discharge of their responsibilities on the field of play.

“They have played with pride and commendable commitment, and will continue to be sufficiently motivated to improve their performance during the second round of the competition,” Hon. Pelpuo acknowledged.

He also praised the managers of the Black Stars for working hard to bring the national soccer team this far in the preparations leading to the African Cup of Nations and World Cup in Angola and South Africa 2010 respectively.

“The Ghana Football Association which has been charged with the management of the team has also been very supportive in the provision of inspirational leadership to the team,” the Minister said.

He added that estimates for “our matches were submitted to us well in advance for funds to be secured in good time for effective planning and preparation for our matches”.

“On behalf of the Government, I wish to take this opportunity to commend and thank all Ghanaians for their spiritual and moral support for the Black Stars during the first round of the qualifying matches. Your support was phenomenal and engendered the type of performance which has placed Ghana firmly on top of the group,” Hon. Pelpuo said.

He assured the august house that if all the stakeholders in the team continue to play their respective roles this way, our participation in Angola 2010 and South Africa 2010 will come real and will produce the results that we all expect.
