Azumah Nelson's Last Fight inspires young boxer

Bolgatanga, May 26, GNA – A 22-year-old Junior High School drop out from Yorogo in the Bolgatanga Municipality, Master Bukari Apana, alias Kinboka has shown interest at becoming a world class boxer.

Master Apana said the former World Featherweight champion, Azumah Nelson's last fight against Jeff Fenech, his Australian counterpart gingered him to show keen interest in boxing and has therefore started training with the support of a retired boxer, Moro Sanda who hails from Dacheo and now resides at Bolgatanga.

The aspiring boxer disclosed this in an interview with GNA Sports in Bolgatanga after his morning training exercise at the Queen Elizabeth Day Care Centre in Bolgatanga.

Explaining why he could not combine schooling with boxing, Apana said his parents were poor and could not cater for him and his senior brother, Sulemana Abenee, who also dropped out of school and went down south to sojourn to earn a living while he stayed home to pursue boxing as a future career.

Apana said he is presently being supported by his brother and a good friend who sells building materials in his training regimen.

He appealed to the Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mark Woyongo, boxing sympathizers, NGOs, the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly and the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga, Mr Opam Brown to assist him in kind or cash to achieve his ambition of becoming a first class boxer to represent the region and the country.
