The Cycling Association
of Zambia (CAZ) will on Sunday hold the first ever "Christmas
Carterium cycling race" to mark the end of this year's cycling
season, Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) reported
on Saturday.
The CAZ President Expendito Chipalo explained that the race
that will go around the capital city is celebrated worldwide aimed at
bringing together cyclists from different categories to battle it out at
the close of the season, according to ZANIS.
Chipalo said that the race will attract cyclists from different
walks of life and will range from cyclists with ordinary bikes to
more advanced ones such as mountain bikes.
He explained that ordinary cyclists will out race each other in the
15 kilometers race while those with mountain bikes will be in the 40
kilometers race.
He disclosed that the competition has attracted about 150
cyclists and will kick off at 07:00 hours at Saint Andrews Church a
kilometer from the Woodlands shopping center on Independence
Avenue road in Lusaka.
Meanwhile Chipalo has appealed for assistance to send a 19 year
old cyclist Obert Chembe for international cycling union training
course in South Africa.
He explained that the training was aimed at empowering Chembe
with modern cycling tactics to help develop the cycling standards in
Zambia.
He said that Obert is expected to travel to South Africa in time
for the course that would start January 11th, 2009 in the rainbow
nation.
