MR. KWAME Baah Nuako, Communication's Manager of Kumasi Asante Kotoko has deflated speculations that the club may lose three valuable points and two goals from its accumulated points for using an unqualified player in their sixth week encounter with Ashantigold.
Kotoko tasted its first defeat of the league in the said match, and a sports newspaper last Friday reported that Ashantigold were taking Kotoko to the disciplinary committee of the FA to deduct three more points from Kotoko's points build-up for using Burkinabe national, Sumaila Abdulai, who Ashantigold claimed was unqualified.
According to the publication headlined: “Kotoko to lose 3 points?, for using unqualified Burkinabe”, Mr. Kofi Manu, Assistant CEO of Ashantigold alleged that the Kotoko goalkeeper was without work permit and therefore ineligible to play in the said match.
But Mr. Baah Nuako in an interview with DAILY GUIDE SPORTS over the weekend rubbished the report saying, “Kotoko has not erred in any way to lose points from its accumulated points build-up”.
According to him, Kotoko in accordance with rules and laws governing the game applied for both work and residence permit for the Burkinabe import at the Ministry of the Interior after which the player's passport was sent to the Immigration Service for stamping which were completed on November 28, 2008 before the commencement of the league.
Mr. Baah Nuako, who seemed dismayed about Ashantigold's claim, noted that Kotoko as at the time of the interview, had not been served to appear before the disciplinary committee of the FA, stressing the claims of Ashantigold was “neither here nor there”.
He therefore entreated teeming followers of the club to remain calm and rally behind the club since there was no cause for alarm, promising that despite losing to Ashantigold, Kotoko was still on course to claiming its 21st league title this season. From Fred J. A. Ibrahim Jnr., Kumasi.
