Ghana continued to fall in the FIFA world ranking by dropping two steps in the latest list released by FIFA yesterday.

Ghana's further drop can be attributed to their 1-1 drawn game with Senegal in London last month, other than their 2-0 win over Morocco and 0-5 defeat to Saudi Arabia early this month which did not affect the latest ranking.

In spite of the latest development, Ghana maintained her ninth position in Africa with Nigeria and Cameroun remaining the two best teams on the continent.

Italy returned to the top of soccer's world rankings yesterday, pushing Brazil two places to third.

The world champions climbed two places to the top spot after its 2-1 win over Ukraine and 0-0 draw with France earlier this month in qualifying for the European Championship.

Italy has 1,488 points. Argentina is second with 1,451 and Brazil third with 1,444. Germany moved up one spot to fourth and the Netherlands gained two places to fifth.

France slipped two places to sixth after its 1-0 loss to Scotland in the European qualifying. Spain, Portugal, England and Croatia round out the top 10.
The United States fell one spot to 18th.

Scotland was rewarded with a jump from No. 23 to 14th — equalling its best position since the FIFA world rankings were introduced in August 1993.
