England
Moroccan defender Talal El-Karkouri scored his third goal of the season but his side Charlton Athletic were held by Sheffield United in a tense relegation lash.

El-Karkouri's goal came from a deflected long-range shot after 59 minutes and sparked wild celebrations among the home supporters, but they were silenced when Englishman John Stead equalised with a powerful shot.

Stead's goal was enough to keep United out of the relegation zone, two points above Charlton.

South African striker Benni McCarthy scored his 15th league goal of the season, his left-foot finish helping Blackburn Rovers come from behind to draw 1-1 at Fulham.

The result edged Fulham closer to survival.

In the north London derby at Tottenham Hotspur's White Hart Lane stadium, Ivorian defender Kolo Toure and Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor scored for visitors Arsenal but their goals were not enough to secure victory.

Ireland forward Robbie Keane had opened the scoring for Spurs before second-half replies from Toure and Adebayor appeared to secure the result for Arsenal.

But in stoppage time, Tottenham's England midfielder Jermaine Jenas made it 2-2 with a superb long-range effort.

Italy
A goal from Ghanaian international midfielder Sulley Muntari kept alive Udinese's hopes of qualifying for next season's Uefa Cup.

Muntari opened the scoring for his team at Reggina with a 26th minute header, but a late penalty from Nicola Amoruso stopped Udinese taking all three points.

Inter Milan claimed the Serie A title with a 2-1 win at Siena, thanks to two goals from Italian defender Marco Materazzi.

Spain
Cameroonian midfielder Daniel Kome helped Valladolid secure promotion to the Primera Liga with eight games still to play.

Their 2-0 win at Tenerife on Sunday stretched their unbeaten run to 28 games.

Kome joined Valladolid on loan from Mallorca in the January transfer window and has since agreed a permanent contract with the club.

In the Primera Liga, Recreativo Huelva remained on course to qualify for the Uefa Cup after winning 4-2 at home to Racing Santander.

Talismanic Nigerian striker Ikechukwu Uche set Recreativo on the way in the second minute and goals from Spanish midfielders Pablo Amo and Santi Cazorla and Romanian forward Laurentiu Rosu were more than enough to seal the win.

At the top, second-placed Sevilla cut the gap to Barcelona to one point with a thumping 4-1 home win over Athletic Bilbao while Barca lost 2-0 at Villarreal.

Germany
A terrific goal from Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan helped relegation-threatened Mainz to a 2-2 draw at Hamburg.

Zidan opened the scoring in the 12th minute, shooting powerfully into the top corner after a strong run.

Two goals from Cameroon midfielder Joel Epalle helped VfL Bochum to a 3-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Epalle's double came after Greek striker Theofanis Gekas opened the scoring in the 32nd minute.

The result lifted Bochum three points clear of the relegation places, a point above VfL Wolfsburg who lost 3-2 at home to Arminia Bielefeld, despite a goal from Ghana's Isaac Boakye.

France
An 88th-minute penalty from Ivorian striker Bakary Kone seemed to have secured Nice's top-flight status as they travelled to second-bottom Sedan.

But a stoppage time own goal from Frenchman Olivier Echouafni gifted Sedan a 1-1 draw.

A goal from Ivorian Abdul Kader Keita could not prevent Lille going down 3-1 at Monaco while in-form Toulouse lost 3-2 at Stade Rennes, despite a goal from Cameroonian Achille Emana.

Toulouse's defeat handed the title to Olympique Lyon, who drew 0-0 with Auxerre.

Racing Lens moved above Toulouse into second place with a 2-0 home win over Le Mans, Malian midfielder Sidi Yaya Keita scoring the second.

Olympique Marseille moved up to fifth after beating visitors Troyes 2-1.

Marseille's French striker Djibril Cisse, on-loan from Liverpool, opened the scoring after 55 minutes and Tunisian international Ziad Jaziri seemed to have earned Troyes a point with his 80th minute equaliser.

But Cameroonian Modeste M'Bami struck a winner for Marseille four minutes from time.

Holland
Moroccan Adil Ramzi was on target for Roda with his ninth goal of the season in his side's 2-0 win at NAC Breda.

Belgium
Gambian Mohamed Jarju Toubabo drew Lierse level in the 57th minute as his side went on to beat Germinal Beerschot 3-2.

Beveren came from behind to draw 2-2 with Roulers thanks to goals by Mali's Mahamadou Dissa and Ivorian Yao Kouassi Gervais.

The draw did little to help Beveren as they battle against relegation.

Nigerian Joseph Akpala pulled a goal back for Charleroi who lost 2-1 at Mouscron.

Another Nigerian Patrick Ogunsoto was on target this weekend.

Ogunsoto put Westerlo in the lead as they went on to beat Zulte Waregem 4-2.

Portugal
Ghanaian Moses Sakyi broke the deadlock when he put Estrela Amadora ahead in the 61st minute in the 2-1 win over Boavista.

Greece
Nigerian Benjamin Onwuachi equalised for his side Ionikos Nikea before half time.

But an avalanche of goals by AEK Athens in the second-half sent the home side crushing to a 5-1 defeat.

Turkey
Guinea's Ibrahim Yattara scored one of the goals for Trabzonspor, who hammered Sakaryaspor 5-2.
