GFA members at loggerheads ?

Mr Oheneba Charles, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has accused the GFA Chairman Alhaji M.N.D. Jawula of attempting to implicate him in an alleged bribery scandal, which was later released to the Press.

He added that Alhaji Jawula first tried to have the alleged bribery scandal published in the Graphic Sports newspaper with a letter purported to be written by Referee Joseph Wellington, threatening to reveal the facts of the bribery case if a fee of one million cedis was not paid to him. The details of the story was later published in the Asante Kotoko Express newspaper. In a rejoinder published in the Asante Kotoko Express, Mr Oheneba Charles asked, “Why has it had taken the GFA Chairman as long as six months before informing Asante Kotoko about such a serious matter? Was he trying to shield me or was he trying to condone bribery and corruption in Ghana Football?”

He therefore accused the GFA Chairman of attempting to frame him in order to stall his dreams of standing for the chaimanship of the FA.

In recent times, the Ghana Football Association has been accused of financial impropriety and inefficiency by the media. Some of the accusations have also come from its members, who blame the FA for its inability to find a substantive coach for the senior national team the Black Stars. The country's football governing body is also fighting legal battles in courts. The outcome of these legal tussles will have far reaching consequences on the future of the game in the country as Ghana prepares to qualify for her maiden world cup appearance.
