Keep Fit Clubs advised to organize walks periodically
Medie (GA/R), July 5, GNA – About 500 people drawn from seven Keep Fit Clubs in the Ga West District in the Greater Accra Region have participated in a two-hour five kilometers long walk from Medie to Samsam-Odumase aimed at creating awareness through physical fitness.
The event which drew the participating Clubs from Opah, Pokuase, Ankwa Doblo, Mpehuasem, Amasaman, Afiaman and Samsam-Odumase, was also aimed at raising awareness on the health status of both old men and women and the youth.
Sergeant Thomas Awine, Fitness Instructor of the Ghana Prisons at the Nsawam Medium Security and organizer of the programme told GNA Sports after the event that, the main aim of organizing the programme was to strengthen the relationship among the communities in the District and to improve on the health status of the youth through participating in various sports disciplines.
He said through games, the youth would be exposed to avenues that can be translated with the best values of sports into opportunities to promote development, health and peace.
Sergeant Awine also said that sports were not a luxury or benefit but a right that defies all economic, social gender and cultural boundaries.
He expressed gratitude to the Ghana Fire Service, Blue Skies, Torpido Guest House at Pokuase and Agya Appiah Bitters Company for sponsoring the programme to become successful.
The Clubs were participated in a number of activities including football, athletics, sack race, bend ball, skipping, spoon and lime, volley, eating and dancing competitions respectively.
Mr Abraham Atsu, Amasaman Assemblyman expressed gratitude to the organizers and hoped the event would be made an annual affair.
