WA offices of DVLA to embark on outreach registration programme
Wa, July 4, GNA- The Wa Regional office of Driver and Vehicle Licensing
Authority in collaboration with the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council
would, in the next few weeks embark on outreach programmes to register
vehicles and educate owners on the dangers of using vehicles without valid
documentation.
This is because most vehicle owners in other districts of the region were not
willing to travel to the regional capital to register their vehicles coupled with lack
of district offices of the Authority in the region.
Mr. Joseph Clifford Obosu, Upper West Regional Licensing Officer who
disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wa said
the move was also to encourage more people to register their vehicles in the
region and to generate more revenue for the Authority.
He said the Authority had, from January to June this year registered about
2,500 motorcycles and hoped to register more than 3000 motorcycles alone by
the end of the year.
Mr. Obosu noted that while owners of four wheel vehicles were more
compliant, most owners of motorbikes were not ready to either renew their
registration or register them for the first time.
"My brother, you will not believe that since the authority changed motorcycle
number plates only few people in the region have come to the office to go
through the normal procedure of registering with the new numbers," he said.
The Licensing officer added that, because there were no district offices apart
from the regional office at Wa, most vehicle owners in the region took advantage
to evade licensing procedures of the Authority and hoped that such outreach
programmes would whip up the enthusiasm of the people to comply with them.
Mr. Obosu appealed to various District assemblies in the region to assist the
authority to reach out to the public in order to help reduce the frequent spate of
motor accidents the region had experienced over the years.
