Voters' ID Fraudsters Nabbed
THE TAMALE Police have for the second time arrested a gang of electoral fraudsters, barely a month after a similar arrest was made in the metropolis.

The latest suspects to be arrested are Mohammed Jima, a 24-year-old student, Muftaw Innusah, 28, a student of the University for Development Studies (UDS) and Yakubu Fusheini, a 25-year-old graphic designer with Anchor Stationery in Tamale.

According to the Metropolitan Police Commander, DSP Washington Foli, the suspects were arrested at various locations after forging a Voter's Identity Card.

He disclosed that the first suspect, Mohammed, went to the regional post office to claim a parcel and in the process presented a fake voter ID which was immediately identified as such and he was handed over to the Police.

During interrogation he claimed the second suspect, Muftaw aided him to get the ID when he lost his 11 months ago.

In his caution statement, he said Muftaw promised to secure him one so he provided him with the necessary information and he brought the card for a fee of GH¢3.

When the second suspect was arrested and quizzed, he denied promising Mohammed a new voter ID card.

He said instead, he told him it was impossible for him to get him one and advised him to go to the Electoral Commission for a replacement but he failed to do so.

He indicated that upon persistence from the first suspect he sought the assistance of the third suspect who was a graphic designer and he produced the fake voter ID for him.

Mr. Yakubu Fusheini, at the police station, said when he was contacted on the issue by the second suspect he hinted his boss, who advised him against the act and directed the suspect to the EC.

He added that the second suspect cunningly arrived later with a laminating pad alleging that it was given to him at the offices of the EC by an official who told him to reproduce it with a specialist.

Believing him, he designed it for him, only to be in police grips 11 months after.

DSP Foli said the two would be put before court and charged for forging official documents.

They have since been detained by the police and would appear in court soon.

Meanwhile the computer used in the designing of the card has been confiscated.
