Kwahus gear up for development- As they target ¢10bn EduFund


The Chiefs and people of the Kwahu Traditional Area in the Eastern Region have expressed their avowed determination to ensure effective mobilization of both the human and material resources in the area towards accelerating their socio-economic development.

In pursuance of this objective, they have targeted improved education for majority of the people in the area as the vehicle through which their aspirations could be achieved.

This has culminated into the establishment of the Kwahu Educational Trust Fund, from which the needy, but brilliant citizens of the area will be assisted to pursue education to the level they will aspire to reach.

According to Daasebre Akuamoah-Boateng II, Kwahuhene, the KETFUND which has a seed money of ¢1bn has a target of raising ¢10bn, with a harvest tentatively slated for the end of the year.

Inaugurating the Board of Trustees of the Fund yesterday, Daasebre appealed to citizens of the area, especially members of the affluent business community, to show a keener interest in the development agenda of the area, by contributing to support the various projects and programmes that being undertaken in their respective communities.

The nine-member Board of Trustees is under the chairmanship of J K Sefa Ayim, a former Vice chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Chairman of the National Accredition Board.

Other members are Nana Kwame Kumnipa IV, Eric Isaac Odame, a business executive, Richard K Addo, a retired Banker, Dan Kwadwo Anyan, a Chartered Engineer, Eric Owusu-Acheaw, a Banker, David Osei Asare, a legal practitioner, Jackson Atuobi-Ansong, an Accountant, and Augusta Tenkorang, an Educationist.

Daasebre Akuamoah-Boateng charged the Board to allow the administration of the Fund to be guided by the principles of transparency and fairness, while eschewing nepotism and corruption, to ensure that proceeds from the Fund get to the right and deserving people.

He called on all citizens of the Kwahu Traditional Area to contribute towards the sustenance of the Fund, stressing that with unity of purpose and positive communal spirit they would be able to move their development agenda to a higher pedestal.

Chairman of the KETFUND, Prof Sefa Ayim, expressed the determination of the Board of Trustees to carry out their mandate conscientiously, to help ensure the fulfillment of the object of improving educational standards in the Kwahu Traditional Area.

According to Emmanuel Richard Ofori, Chairman of the Kwahu Development Association, the KETFUND, apart from supporting the education of needy, but brilliant students, will also help educational institutions with the provision of educational facilities to support teaching and learning.

Raymond Osafo-Djan and Boanse Darkwah, DCE for Kwahu East and MCE for Kwahu West respectively, urged the people to support all government projects and programmes targeted at enhancing the socio-economic circumstances of the people of the Kwahu Traditional Area.
