Globacom Employs 4,000 Ghanaians
The management of Globacom Ghana has announced plans to employ between 3,000 and 4,000 Ghanaians when it starts full operations by the end of the year.
Group Chief Operating Officer of the telecommunication company, Mohammed Jameel, who disclosed this at a press conference in Accra yesterday projected that his outfit would hit the two million subscriber base in the first year of operations.
Globacom currently has 19 million customers in Nigeria and 300,000 customers in Benin. Mr Jameel said plans are underway to increase the Nigerian subscriber base from 19 million to 35 million and the Benin one from 300,000 to one million by the end of 2009.
The Nigerian telecommunication giant, which was awarded a licence as the sixth mobile cellular operator in Ghana recently pledged to change the face of Ghana's telecommunications industry within the shortest possible time.
Globacom, popularly known as Glo Mobile, is expected to begin operations in the country by the end of the year, and it plans to invest $2 billion in its roll out programme.
“The government and the people of Ghana can only expect the very best in telephony from Globacom as we are set to roll out very aggressively in Ghana shortly,” the company noted.
The National Communication Authority yesterday handed over the licence to Globacom officially in Accra.
