The Students' Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, has congratulated Professor John Evans Atta Mills on his election and investiture as President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.

In a press release signed by Mr Prosper Hoetu and Mr William Nii Ayitey Menson, President and Vice President respectively of the SRC and issued in Kumasi on Thursday, the SRC wished him well in his tenure of office as President.

The statement also lauded Ghanaians for conducting successful and peaceful Parliamentary and Presidential Elections in spite of the apparent tensions that arose, and that the situation was handled with the utmost maturity.

It said “our democracy has come of age and Ghanaians have demonstrated that the country remains a beacon of hope on the African continent and for this reason Government and the people of Ghana deserve commendation.

“It is important for us as a nation to adequately evaluate the elections especially, pockets of violence and allegations of electoral malpractices”.

It added that this would help us improve the credibility of our electoral system to avoid future occurrence of such unfortunate incidents that have the tendency of damaging our democratic dispensation.

The statement further hoped that the President as a Professor would attach utmost importance to education especially university education.
