Mr Paul Evans-Amuzu, Volta Regional Head of Ghana Telecom, has expressed worry at the seemingly lack of interest of the Police towards the prosecution of GT cable thieves in the region.

"Though the Regional Commander is showing some commitment to fighting cable thieves, some of his men are not helping us", he said.

Mr Amuzu said this during a media interaction at Ho to mark this year s world s Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

He said several cases involving cable thefts were pending before the courts at Ho, Aflao and Hohoe because Police prosecutors and investigators were most times unavailable anytime the cases were called at the courts.

Mr Evans-Amuzu said there were instances when some of the suspects had gone back to steal the cables on being released on bail, because the Police prosecutors were not in court.

He said the seriousness of the security threat posed by such cable thefts seemed to have been lost on some of the Police personnel.

Mr Evans-Amuzu drew attention to the sudden influx of scrap dealers to the region that needed to be closely watched.

He urged the public to help in protecting GT cables since it is an essential and strategic national asset.
