Tema, June 3, GNA - Residents of the Sakomono Estate Chapel Square near Tema could not hide their excitement when bulldozers started work on a major access road from the estate joining the Sakomuno village along the Tema Beach road.
The one and half kilometer road and its ancillary links, being executed by the Ghana Highway Authority and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, is being constructed in response to an appeal made by the Chapel Square Residents Association to the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, during a tour of Tema West last month.
When completed, the road would provide not only easy access route for motorists from the estate through the Sakomono village to Tema, but also to residents who have drive to the Chapel Square to attend church and other social functions.
The absence of the road has been a serious problem for residents as the swampy nature of the area which had been overgrown with trees and was a safe haven for armed robbers who attacked unsuspecting residents.
The Minister who was conducted round by the Project Manager of the Mobile Maintenance Unit II of the GHA, Mr Christian Nti, said he was happy to assist the residents with their road and transport concerns.
He said when the project was completed as expected within two months, church members and residents would no longer have to battle with dust and muddy roads which has created inconvenience for them during special occasions and other social events.
Mr Collins Agyarko, a resident and opinion leader, expressed his gratitude to the Minister for his role in bringing relief to them in improving their roads and ensuring that streets are lighted at night to provide security for the people.
He said being a victim of several armed robbery attacks where his cars had been broken into and valuables stolen, he was happy that God was using the Minister to answer their prayers.
Mrs Regina Quaye, another resident, said she was overwhelmed with joy for the road project by the honourable minister who was swift to respond to their request in less than a month.
The Assembly man for the area, Mr Gilbert Lucky Mensah also expressed his gratitude to Mr Ofosu-Ampofo for the project and hoped he would use his influence as a minister of state to bring more development to the area.
