Wa West Assembly makes giant strides in expansion of education facilitiesBy GNA

Wechiau (UWR), Aug. 30, GNA - The Wa West District Assembly in the Upper West Region is constructing 11-Number 6-Unit classroom blocks and 5-Number 3-Unit classroom blocks with ancillary facilities in communities across the District.
The projects are part of the Assembly's efforts to provide logistics and infrastructural facilities to expand and equip its basic and Senior High Schools to ensure quality education in the District.
Additionally, the Assembly has constructed an ICT centre at Wechiau the District capital, and was in the process of finalizing internet connectivity to the facility.
Mr Seidu Tungbani, District Chief Executive (DCE), spelt out the development strides during the Assembly's second ordinary meeting on Thursday at Wechiau.
He said the Assembly had received 2,500 pieces of school furniture for distribution among schools in the District, saying school pupils would not lie on the floor to write again.
The DCE noted that the Assembly under the government's Free School Uniforms for all basic schools policy, received and distributed 2,000 pieces of school uniforms and that they were still awaiting the arrival of 10,000 free exercise books for distribution to schools.
Mr. Tungbani said the construction of an ICT centre, a 2-Number 6-Unit classrooms and electrical installations were being carried out at Lassia-Tuolu Senior High School (SHS) to give it a face-lift and enhance academic performance.
The DCE expressed the hope that these interventions among others yet to come, would undoubtedly increase enrolment and improve school retention and completion rates and bring about quality education in the District.
He commended the teachers for accepting postings to serve in the District which was regarded as one of the most deprived in the Region.
