Bambata`s nomination triggers controversy

MR. KWABENA Adjei, the Presidential candidate for the Reformed Patriotic Democrats (RPD), who is highly tipped to be appointed the Ashanti Regional Minister by the NDC government, is seen to be a thorn in the flesh of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

His name has sent fear down the spines of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and raised much controversy. While the NDC is not complaining against the nomination of Adjei, alias Bambata, some elements in the NPP think otherwise and are agitating against his appointment to Ministerial position in the region.

Bambata confided in The Chronicle that following the Progressive Alliance of the RPD with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the run-off of the December elections, he made proposals to the NDC to that effect. But it looks like the NPP is not happy with it.

He said NPP's fear is based on the premises that he (Bambata) might mobilize the RPD to strengthen the NDC base in the region. Bambata claims that some NPP elements are persuading him not to take up any appointment by the NDC with the simple reason that the NDC might use him against Ashantis.

They also fear that the once staunch member of the NPP might expose the core activities of the NPP and weaken the support base of the main opposition party.

The RPD founder opted to support NDC during the run-off for the needed change and stressed the need for the NPP to go into opposition so that they can be held accountable by the law of wilfully causing financial loss to the state.

Meanwhile, the RPD has congratulated Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta-Mills for emerging the winner of the 2008 Elections after a keen contest.

Mr. Francis Kyei, General Secretary of the party hailed President Atta Mills and said the RPD believed it was a worthy cause to support the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the presidential run-off.

Kyei told The Chronicle shortly after the declaration of the election results and the subsequent inauguration ceremony that the victory of the NDC at the polls had come to consolidate the advocacy for change.

He said the voice of the people was a signal to political parties and politicians alike that the Ghanaian voter should not be taken for granted.

The RPD chief scribe noted that Prof. Atta Mills deserves the mandate of the good people of Ghana to steer the affairs of the nation for the next four years and more, and hoped the President would deliver on all the achievable promises which made the RPD the only political party to have wholly supported the NDC in the run-off.

Kyei also cautioned the new government to consolidate on the peace currently prevailing in the country and work to create more jobs to salvage the plight of Ghanaians, as well as ensure the rule of law.

He also hoped that the Atta-Mills government would give education the needed boost.
