Security personnel pray for peaceful elections

Security personnel from the 66 Artillery Regiment, Volta Barracks, and the Volta Regional Police Command, on Sunday organized a joint prayer session for peaceful elections on December 7, 2008.

The personnel prayed for stakeholders and all institutions connected directly and indirectly to the election process.

The men also committed themselves to God to be used as peace ambassadors before, during and after the elections.

The event was on the theme: “For God and the Country”.

Rev. Ernest Ofori-Debrah, Pastor in charge of the “7” Garrison Methodist Presbyterian Church at the 66 Artillery Barracks charged the men to demonstrate love and professionalism on Election Day.

“You must endeavour to be a vessel of God and carry peace to everyone,” he said.

Rev. Ofori-Debrah asked the citizenry to regularly ask for God's favour for the nation and ask for the right leadership.

He urged Ghanaians to accept the results of the polls and never attempt to resist since that could be a recipe for confusion.

Lieutenant Colonel Kotia, Commanding Officer of the Regiment advised the personnel not to interfere with the election processes wherever they would be detailed to ensure free, fair and transparent elections.

He urged them to be impartial in their operations and not to align themselves to any political party while on duty.

The Commander warned the personnel against campaigning openly in the Barracks and assured that the Regiment had received all resources required to ensure peaceful elections.
