THE Wassa Association of Communities Affected by Mining (WACAM) has celebrated its ten years anniversary, with a call on mining communities to work to meet the demands of host communities affected by their activities.

The executive directors of WACAM, Mr. and Mrs. Owusu Koranteng, have been working in the region to enlighten the host communities on their civic rights and responsibilities, regarding the protection of their environments, their own welfare and security of the communities.

Mr. Koranteng addressed the host mining communities, drawn from throughout the country, to participate in the climax of the ten year anniversary celebration.

Addressing the host communities, Mr. Koranteng noted that the continuous education embarked upon by WACAM, has raised the awareness of host communities on their rights, and many communities were able to quote sections of the Minerals and Mining Law to support their demands for the payment of compensation.

WACAM is working actively in more than 60 mining communities in the Wassa mining areas of the region.
