THE Baatsona branch of the Victory Bible Church Interna-tional, has awarded scholarships to nine brilliant but needy students.

It forms part of a scheme launched in 2005 to assist needy but brilliant students.

So far, the scheme has awarded scholarships to 49 brilliant but needy students and 30 more students are expected to benefit next year.

Speaking at the award ceremony, the general secretary of the church, Rev. Cornelius Adja Cofie, noted that, brilliant students from poor families find it difficult to pursue education in the tertiary institutions as a result of financial constraints.

He said he was hopeful that the scheme would go a long way to enhance youth capacity and therefore, urged Christians, religious bodies, traditional rulers, civil society and other stakeholders to explore avenues to institute support schemes for students from poor financial backgrounds.

He urged the parents and guardians to ensure hardwork of their wards to excel in academic and moral excellence to justify the honour accorded them.

The resident pastor, Rev. Immanuel Kwansa, also urged christians to “support the fatherless for God to open the floodgates of heavenly blessings for you”.
