With one contestant already out of the competition, it appears the contestants of this year's edition of Stars of the Future have renewed their resolve to stay in the competition. This was abundantly clear from their performance at the National Theatre.

Dubbed the Pop Night, it was clear right from the beginning of the competition that the contestants meant business.

They were poised for action and their confidence was over the top and it showed through their well thought-out costumes to the stagecraft.

Akosua was first on stage with a rendition of Keisha White's 'The Weakness'. Her song was so good that Judges Zapp Mallet, Doreen Andoh and Kiki Banson could not help but be impressed. They urged her to keep singing the way she sang and the sky will not be the limit for her.

Then came Nelson with the love song 'I choose you' by Mario. His attempt was good but unfortunately, it was not one that impressed the Judges.

They seemed quite un-amused by his lack of growth in the competition and advised him to up his game if he was to go any further. This was not welcoming news to Nelson as he was in the bottom three for eviction last week.

The loll that was created by Nelson's performance soon evaporated with the energetic performance by Luigi. No matter what the Judges thought of his rendition of the song 'I want it that way' by Backstreet Boyz, Luigi proved one thing - that he is one hell of a dancer, much to the delight of the ladies who had gathered in the auditorium.

The performances of Enoch with Neyo's 'Do you', Rose with Kelly Clarkson's 'Because of you', Bertha with Keysha Cole's 'Heaven sent' and Daniel with Akon and Michael Jackson's 'Hold my Hands' were spot on. The Judges only had a few words of encouragement for them.

Pearl on the other hand was a knock out, breaking out of her shell, using the stage to her full advantage and doing justice to Mary J. Blidge' song 'Can't be without you'. Despite her coming down with a cold all week, Lilian, the last performer for the night, had the right attitude for her choice of song 'if I were a boy' by Beyonce - a performance that left no one in doubt of her talents.

The performances of Nyaneba and Christian both left much to be desired and it is hoped that they will make it through to the next stage to prove their worth. The audience who gathered at the National Theatre on Friday had a fun time watching the 11 performances. What is required of them, however, is their votes.

The text lines are open all week and everyone is encouraged to send the name of their favorite to the short Code 1750 on MTN and all other networks.

Stars of the Future is a Charterhouse event with sponsorship from MTN and supported by Coca Cola, Somovision and Castle Milk Stout.

Make a date on Friday at the National Theatre this week with the night dubbed Michael Jackson Night featuring all the favourite tracks by the lat King of Pop.
