Joseph Asare, Sarah Owoo Are Milo Champions

Fourteen-year-old Joseph Asare from the Western Region has been crowned champion of the Under-15 category of the Accra Milo Marathon, which he won in 56 minutes and 26 seconds.
The annual competition which was organised by Nestle Ghana Ltd, producers of Milo, on Saturday, was patronised by over 1,000 people from all over the country.
The participants were grouped into two. While the Under-15 participants started from the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex, those above 15 years started from Nungua but both groups finished at the Dansoman Keep Fit Club.
Joseph Asare, who was the defending champion, fought off stiff opposition from two lads from the Brong Ahafo Region: Simon Amponsah and Clifford Akoto who came second and third respectively.
The winner of the female Under-15 category was again, Sarah Owoo the three times champion, from the Central Region. She finished within one hour, 43 minutes and 20 seconds.
The second and third positions went to Aisha Abu from Brong Ahafo and Gladys Mawutor from the Volta regions respectively.
For emerging first in the boys and girls categories, Joseph Asare and Sarah Owoo each took home GH1,400.00 bursary, GH1,100 lodged in the Ecobank Junior Savers Account, a trophy and some Milo.
Simon Amponsah and Aisha Abu who came second in the boys and girls categories respectively, each received GH1,300 bursary, GH1,100 in Ecobank Junior Savers Account and some tins of Milo, while Clifford Akoto and Gladys Mawutor who took the third places for the boys and girls categories respectively, received GH1,200 bursary and Milo.
Although the minimum age for participation was nine years, Aminatu Alhaji Gana, a seven-year-old girl from the Eagle Sports Foundation took part in the race and finished ahead of many others.
In the Mass Marathon Godwin, Adukpo won the event for the third consecutive time. He was closely
followed by five-times champion, David Zigah, who came second, while Emmanuel Essumang placed third.
The female category ended with Millicent Boadi, Gifty Abbey and Elizabeth taking the first, second and third positions respectively.
The participation of Hiplife Star, Kwaw Kese, who managed to be among the first 100 competitors added lots of fun to the event which happened to be the 23rd edition of the competition.
Sixty-six-year-old Reverend Sam Oppong Boadi, who participated in the Mass Marathon for the eighth time was adjudged the oldest participant.
