Hockey fans left the Theodosia Okoh hockey Pitch shocked as a result of the 2-1 victory bottom-placed Police recorded over Golden Sticks to draw the curtain on the first round of the IPMC hockey league last Saturday.
It was Police first ever victory over their opponents who paraded array of stars like Jacob Sowah, Isaac Ofori, Daniel Lamptey, Joseph Appiah among others who left the pitch dejected following the twist of events.
Police demonstrated predatory instincts in the early minutes of the game but goalkeeper Suleman denied them until in the 16th minute when Daniel Bensah fetched the opener to the amazement of the sparse crowd.
When the bankers appeared organized, Ahiagba Mawu made it two, six minutes before the break and that generated serious arguments among the spectators who had predicted a massive win for the bankers:
As expected, Golden Sticks resumed the break aggressively and one of their efforts paid off when striker Daniel Lamptey pulled one back seven minutes after recess.
In the first game of the day, CEPS drew 1-1 with Exchequers of Bank of Ghana to maintain their unbeaten record, while Real Ambassadors drew 3-3 with Reformers.
Trustees defeated Marine Sticks 2- 0 in the last game of the day.
