A trader who inflicted blade wounds on a businessman after he had separated her from someone with whom she was in a scuffle was on Thursday sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment in hard labour.

Maureen Moses, charged with causing harm, pleaded guilty. She pleaded with the court to deal leniently with her.

The prosecution said Maureen and the complainant, Mr Yaw Osei, resided at Odwna, near the railways lines, in Accra.

According to prosecution, there had been squabbles between the complainant's wife and the Maureen. On May 29 this year a misunderstanding ensued between the two women which degenerated into verbal exchanges of abusive words.

Mr Osei who arrived at scene, tried to separate the two but in the process, Maureen inflicted blade wounds on his (Mr Osei's) face, left arm and neck after which she took to her heels.

The prosecution said two days after the incident the police arrested Maureen and handed her over to Neoplan Police Station.

During police interrogation, Maureen admitted the offence in her caution statement.
