A LARGE crowd of mourners last Saturday stormed the family house of 11-year-old Moses Tetteh Kassim who was killed by a police bullet to commiserate with the family.

Moses, considered as a disciplined chap among his peers in the neighbourhood, was hit by a stray bullet on Tuesday June 3, this year while returning from a public toilet at Ashaiman, during a riot that day between some commercial drivers and the Police in the area.

Moses’ body, which was sent to the Police Hospital morgue in Accra, was brought home in a vehicle provided by the Police.

Family members, friends and the large crowd could not hold their tears on seeing the coffin containing the mortal remains of Moses when it was brought, as some of them jumped and lay on the ground wailing.

The family members had a hectic time controlling the large crowd which wanted to see the body.

Chief Superintendent Joshua Dogbeda, the Tema Regional Crime Officer, who together with personnel of the Ghana Police Service joined the family to bury Moses, reassured the family that investigations were still ongoing in the incident.

He called on the public to help the Police with information that could help in their investigations.

He however lamented that it was sad that people were not cooperating with the police and indicated that such an attitude would not help in coming to a fair conclusion in investigations into the incident.

He reminded the public that the Police could not work in isolation, saying both the public and the Police have to work together for the betterment of society.

Mr. Augustine Kyeremeh, Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) First Trustee, who was also at the cemetery with some of his colleagues, said it was sad that such an innocent boy and a driver had lost their lives.

Mr. Kyeremeh mentioned that since it was a problem involving the Police and commercial drivers that caused the death of the two, GPRTU would support the family in the funeral.

The burial ceremony was under the supervision of ACP William Kwanair, the Ashaiman Police Commander.

There was also a delegation from the family of Moses Ofori, alias Alhaji, the driver who died while saving Moses Tetteh Kassim.

Mr. Kwabena Amponsah, an uncle of Moses Ofori, told DAILY GUIDE that his nephew was never Baba Amadu as had been reported by a section of the media.

He disclosed that the body of his nephew would be collected from the Police Hospital morgue on Friday, June 27 and sent to the family house for wake keeping, after which it would be buried on June 28 at the Kpone cemetery.
